LOCAL NATIVE PLANTS

A new native greenway, the Ryan Street Greenway has been established this spring. There are also a number of native plant front-yard gardens on Asquith Street; 2758, 2754, 2749, and 2615. A new native garden (and public vegetable garden on the boulevard) is being developed at the corner of Haultain and Asquith. There is also a large public park, Oaklands Green Park, across from the Oaklands Community Centre. It has inherited many camas from the Cridge.

Do not pick any wild flowers or go on any sites without proper permission. If you are interested in native plants, you can contact email me and I will point you in the right direction.

If you would like to see a detailed log of observations and activities, click here.

A recent study by the Garry Oak Recovery Team shows 188 significant Garry Oak sites in Canada, of which only 6 are in Victoria. Two of those significant sites from Victoria are right here in the Oaklands area - the Cridge and Oaklands School!

OTHER

How about exploring down 2600-block Forbes on your daily walk - check out 2646 Forbes.  Listen as you approach the house and you may be lucky to hear the wonderful sound of a fountain and waterfall.   The rambling waterfall is even sometimes lit up at night.

Add an interesting stop on your walk around the neighbourhood.  Check out what is happening at the Ministry of Casual Living at 1442 Haultain (between Belmont and Asquith).  They regularly change their exhibit, and you never know what to expect. Across the street is the new coffee shop - "Koffi".
Please feel free to contact Ludo if you would like to add any items to the schedule or notes; or if you would like to add your block.
